History
Koo Wee Rup Primary School opened on 1st November 1884.
Its first location was on the corner of Bethunes Lane and Koo Wee Rup-Longwarry Road (Bayles Road).
The first Head Teacher was Eva Hurst.
The school was known as "SS No. 2629 Yallock". The school name was changed to Koo Wee Rup in 1903.
Locally, the school was known as "Mrs Mc Kenzie's School" after Grace McKenzie, the Head Teacher from 1888 to 1911 (23 years).
The school moved to Koo Wee Rup township in the early 1900s. School was held in the Public Hall on 26th. July 1909.
The original building was moved to Koo Wee Rup (on the site of the present Secondary College in Rossiter Road) and first occupied in September 1910.
Two new rooms were built and first occupied in February 1915.
The original building moved to Dalmore in May 1919 and became SS 3952 Dalmore East. The name was later changed to "Island Road" in 1935.
In 1953 the school (on the Rossiter Road site) became a Higher Elementary School.
The Primary School shared the site with the High School from 1956 to 1959.
Land was purchased on Moody Street in April 1956 and the new Primary School opened on 25th November 1960.
Island Road P.S. (closed in 1974) was moved back onto the Moody Street site in 1984 using a grant to celebrate the centenary of P.S. 2629. This original building is still on site and is used for specialist teaching.
In the past 25 years, various buildings have been added to the site including a gym (built by local farmers), portables, library and canteen.
In 2009, the school will celebrate its 125th anniversary.
